We're Here!

15th April 2002

Here we are, bleary-eyed and back online. Did you miss us? I did. Apparently, moving house is rated as the most stressful experience in life, ranking above even, divorce. Well, I reckon whoever is of that opinion obviously hasn't completed Mario Kart on 150CC at 3 in the morning after falling foul of the Rainbow Road for like, the fifteenth time in a row. When you have to be in work early the next morning. And you've just given up smoking. And drinking. And sex. And like, you're really worried about something. Something big. And important. Something big and important that like, if you don't sort out tomorrow, you'll die. Or something. Well anyway, they're nearly right.

Superb Day For the Gunners!

23rd March 2002

Arsenal breezed past Newcastle United today, to book  themselves a place in the FA Cup semi-finals. The 3-0 victory came thanks to early goals from Pires and Bergkamp, followed by a second half header from Sol Campbell. Meanwhile, the Gunners' League and Cup double chances look better thanks to Middlesborough - they finished 1-0 winners at Old Trafford to leave Manchester United stuck with just a single point lead at the head of the Premiership. Arsenal now have two games in hand over United thanks to their continuing Cup schedule and that Double just looks more and more likely as the weeks go on...

Another Right To Die Case

7th March 2002

So another so-called `right to die` case hits the news. I have one thing to say on the matter, " My body - my choice! ". How DARE these moral protesters think they have the right to tell anyone else what they can or can't do with their own bodies if it harms no-one else! Disagree with me.

2nd March 2002

Another world-class goal from Dutch Master Denis Bergkamp set Arsenal on their way to a comfortable 2-0 victory against Newcastle this evening. Sol Campbell added a second late in the first half, and Arsene Wenger's men defended well to withstand the Magpies attempts at a comeback. The Gunners leapfrog Newcastle and Liverpool into joint 1st position in the Premiership. Manchester United, currently ahead on goal difference play Derby County tomorrow.

Whoosh! That's the Sound of Technological Progress...

21st February 2002

Announced this week, the successor to DVD is provisionally called Blu-ray. Responsible is the same consortium of companies that agreed the DVD standards, namely: Sony, Philips, Matsushita, Sharp, Hitachi, Pioneer, LG, Samsung and Thomson.

Consumer devices based on the technology are not expected before next year and will obviously be very pricey. With a 27GB storage capacity, the discs will be able to handle HDTV playback and who knows - possibly more?

The kind of bandwidth this medium provides, opens up all sorts of exciting possibilities. See Tone's thoughts on Blu-Ray for a more detailed look.
